Cara belajar yang dilakukan pelajar milenial di tengah maraknya perkembangan teknologi digital tentunya berbeda dengan cara belajar di era konvesional. Pelajar saat ini bisa menemukan berbagai informasi melalui komputer atau ponsel yang tersambung internet. Mengacu dari hal tersebut, berkembang juga cara belajar secara online (e-learning) dengan metode dan teori yang terbentuk dalam sebuah sistem belajar atau biasa dikenal dengan LMS (Learning Management System). LMS tersebut adalah sistem yang dibuat sesuai dengan kebutuhan pelajar ketika belajar tanpa harus tatap muka dengan guru di sekolah.

Pada kenyataannya e-learning tidak selalu membuat proses belajar berjalan optimal, terkadang beberapa tujuan dari belajar itu sendiri tidak  tercapai. Ketika diamati kembali, sebagian pelajar yang menggunakan sistem e-learning mudah terdistraksi oleh banyak notifikasi dari sosial media, games online atau hal lain di luar konteks pembelajaran.  Oleh sebab itu, menyajikan sebuah materi atau konten dalam e-learning menjadi sebuah tantangan yang harus menjadi perhatian, bagaimana menemukan sebuah strategi yang menjadi solusi dalam menyajikan konten yang baik, menarik dan mudah dimengerti  pelajar di tengah banyak gangguan yang dapat mengalihkan fokus saat belajar.

Berlandaskan hal tersebut, muncul strategi baru yaitu Microlearning yang digadang-gadang dapat membantu pelajar mencapai tujuan belajar dalam e-learning. Microlearning terdiri dari dua kata (Micro/Mikro : ukuran kecil) dan (Learning : kegiatan belajar) sehinga dapat diartikan sebagai kegiatan belajar dengan skala yang kecil. Microlearning digunakan sebagai strategi dalam merancang konten belajar menjadi segmen – segmen kecil dan terfokus. Konten yang dimaksud berupa learning object yang digunakan dalam e-learning.

Berikut adalah beberapa contoh konten pembelajaran mikro yang dapat Anda pilih.

  1. Teks: Untuk teks ini, Anda dapat mengambil frase atau paragraf pendek yang mudah dipahami oleh para pelajar.
  2. Gambar: Gambar ini dapat berupa foto yang diambil secara nyata dan juga dapat berupa ilustrasi.
  3. Video: Anda dapat membuat video pendek sebagai bagian dari pembelajaran
  4. Audio: Rekaman suara dari pengajar untuk para pelajar
  5. Tes dan kuis
  6. Game dalam proses belajar mengajar.

Dengan Microlearning, konten belajar dengan durasi yang cukup panjang disajikan menjadi video singkat dengan durasi 1 – 3 menit, bahkan bisa dijadikan hanya satu infografis dalam satu lembar. Hal tersebut dilakukan untuk mengurangi kelebihan kognitif siswa sehingga konten mudah untuk diserap dan diingat. Penyajian dengan strategi microlearning menghasilkan jenis konten yang singkat, praktis dan dapat diakses kapan saja dan dimana saja ketika dibutuhkan. Microlearning dikatakan mampu membuat proses pembelajaran dalam e-learning lebih efektif karena  4 alasan, yaitu :

1. Konten belajar dibuat sangat kecil (Bite sized)

Seperti yang sudah disebutkan, fokus saat siswa belajar akan mudah teralihkan oleh gangguan lain diluar konteks belajar , oleh sebab itu penyajian materi yang singkat lebih mudah untuk dimengerti.

2. Spesifik

Sesuai dengan ukuran yang kecil, konten yang disajikan tidak penuh dengan teori saja, melainkan satu teori dengan satu contoh atau praktek yang sesuai dengan masalah yang sering di temukan.

3. Cepat

Penyajian konten yang singkat akan menghasilkan waktu belajar yang singkat , sehingga ketika di akses di ponsel , satu learning object bisa di pahami dengan cepat. Sehingga pelajar tidak terditraksi dengan gangguan luar konteks belajar.

4. Menyesuaikan Kondisi dan Kebutuhan

Learning object dapat dibuat dapat sewaktu – waktu dibutuhkan sehingga memudahkan untuk pelajar untuk mencari dan mengakses kembali konten tersebut.
